Doug Nelson










 



Doug Nelson is a Senior Consultant in the field of incident response, emergency operations, crisis management, business continuity planning and pandemic preparedness. Over the past 15 years he has provided consultation and project management service to small, medium and large companies operating in North America and EMEA, such as Pacific Gas & Electric and Entergy in the energy sector; Chiron Corporation, Roche, Gilead, and Wyeth in the pharmaceutical sector; Lam Research and Terra Industries in the manufacturing sector; Federated Stores/Macy’s Inc. in the retail sector; VMware in the technology sector, United Way, the Council on Foundations, and the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation in the non-profit sector; the Canadian Consulate General of San Francisco in the public sector, and Saint Mary’s College of California in the higher education sector.

Mr. Nelson has participated in the activation of corporate Crisis Management Teams for Y2K, 9/11, IED attack by extremist groups, product recall, and other emergencies such as fire on campus, toxic gas in the HVAC system, municipal transportation strikes, and rolling blackouts during the California energy crisis.

As a Contra Costa County Private Sector Liaison Team Lead, and member of the Business Executives for National Security, Doug supports county and state-level response during activation of local and regional Emergency Operations Centers.

He is certified as a Business Continuity Professional by the Disaster Recovery Institute International and as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute. He is a graduate of the University of California and holds a Masters Degree from California Polytechnic State University. Doug currently serves on several national and international-level committees responsible for development of standards and professional practices for Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, and Organizational Resilience. He is a member of the Technical Committee that maintains the ANS/NFPA standard for Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity (NFPA 1600). He is also a member of the committee of experts developing the ANSI/ASIS standard for Organizational Resilience and the ANSI/ASIS standard for Business Continuity Management. In addition, he has assisted DRJ/DRII with development of the Generally Accepted Practices and served as Vice-Chair of the Standards and Professional Practices Coordinating Committee.
