Doug Nelson is a senior consultant in the field of business continuity planning and emergency preparedness. Over the past 15 years he has provided consultation and project management service to small, medium and large companies operating in North America and EMEA, such as Pacific Gas and Electric, JPMorgan Chase, Chiron Corporation, Macy’s Department Stores, United Way, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Mr. Nelson has participated in the activation of corporate Crisis Management Teams for Y2K, 9/11, IED attack by extremist groups, product recall, and more routine emergencies such as fire on campus, toxic gas in the HVAC system of a high-rise office building, municipal transportation strikes, and rolling blackouts during the California energy crisis.
He is certified as a Business Continuity Professional by the Disaster Recovery Institute International and as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute. He is a graduate of the University of California and holds a Masters Degree from California Polytechnic State University.
Doug currently serves on two national-level and one international-level committee that are responsible for development of standards and professional practices for Emergency Management and Business Continuity. He is a member of the Technical Committee that maintains the ANSI standard for Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity (NFPA 1600). He is a member of the team of subject matter experts that is developing the Generally Accepted Practices for Business Continuity (DRJ/DRII). He is also a member of the Technical Advisory Group that is assisting ISO develop a global standard for Societal Security (TC 223).
